Migration

Image
"Migration" 2020 Copyright Julie Nygaard  Digital Photography Manipulation - Canon  To have the freedom to leave,  to adventure to far away lands,   to spread my wings and fly,  is something I think of.  "In a sea of human beings, it is difficult, at times  even impossible, to see the humans as beings."  - Aysha Taryam

Player's - Heritage Building

Image
"Player's - Heritage Building" 2019  Copyright Julie Nygaard  Digital Photography - Canon So many incredible heritage buildings to photograph.  This one in particular is located in downtown Victoria, B.C.   The faded advertising from years gone really makes this a special building.

Metropolitan Mind

Image
"Metropolitan Mind" 2019 Copyright Julie Nygaard Digital Photography Manipulation - Canon   "Cities have always offered anonymity, variety, and conjunction,  qualities best basked in by walking: one does not have to go into  the bakery or the fortune teller's, only to know that one might.  A city always contains more than one inhabitant can know,  and a great city always makes the unknown and the  possible spurs to the imagination."  - Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking

Winter falls on the City

Image
"Winter falls on the City" 2019 Copyright Julie Nygaard Digital Photography Manipulation - Canon  The bare trees stand against the steel, brick and glass,  making the winter months seem colder than cold.  The city is full of life, bringing some warmth to the  urban environment despite the cold surroundings.  -  Julie Nygaard

What we lost in the fire

Image
"What we lost in the fire" 2020 Copyright Julie Nygaard  Digital Photography Manipulation - Canon Heavy heart for all the loss from the raging fires in Australia.  Praying for rain to help the firefighters, praying for all of the animals; there have been so many that have perished, praying for the people who call Australia home and for all the volunteers, firefighters, etc who are working around the clock to support and help those in need while trying to conquer this raging beast.

Memories Of Ryan

Image
A custom art piece for a family who are grieving the loss of a loved one. I incorporated a photo that they had provided and let my creativity take over. I was happy with the outcome and the family was over the moon with this.  "Memories of Ryan" 2019  Copyright Julie Nygaard Digital Photography Manipulation - Canon There is no time frame for grieving.  Never let anyone tell you different.  Feeling your emotions and going through the process is healing.  I have learned through my losses that the loved ones  who have passed are always with us.  You are never truly alone.

Impact - The City

Image
"Impact - City" 2020 Copyright Julie Nygaard Digital Photography Manipulation - Canon I had created a few pieces in regards to environmental issues for a show that is currently at Cowichan Valley Arts Council Gallery in Duncan, B.C. This piece was made from a few photographs; one of a view of the West End in Vancouver, one of bare trees from here in the Cowichan Valley and one of the sun behind clouds. I removed all the color from the photographs and layered them and then hand painted in the color. I used Photoshop and Painter Essentials 6.  I must admit that I enjoy the creation process so much. I really never know how a particular piece will turn out and that is the exciting part.
